So You Can Build…Smarter

Hayward initiated the EnviroSmart program to assist builders and architects in making environmentally conscious choices by creating a list of prodcuts that both support “green” initiatives and deliver reliable performance. Our in-house Sustainability Team has rigorously reviewed hundreds of products to determine their value in supporting one or more of the following initiatives:

  • IMPROVING AIR QUALITY – Whether it’s keeping toxic substances out of our homes or improving ventilation, making the right choice in building materials helps insure good indoor air quality.
  • IMPROVING RESOURCE EFFICIENCY – Many environmentally preferable building materials accomplish more with less.
  • SUPPORTING HUMAN HEALTH – Minimizing the use of toxic materials in all stages of the building process results in homes that support human health.
  • MAINTAINING HEALTHY FORESTS – Hayward recognizes Forest Stewardship Council  (FSC) Certification as the only third-party verified program for truly sustainable forestry.

Building smarter means doing more with less. In today’s competitive building climate everybody is looking for efficiencies to keep ahead of the pack.
Resource efficient products range from energy-saving products like ThermoPly or foil-backed OSB to products with high recycled contents, like Homasote or Trex. This category also includes product such as CertainTeed WeatherBoards – a fiber-cement siding product that will outlast wood siding by decades.

The Forest Stewardship Council® ’s principles and criteria, the standards by which forest management is audited, define FSC®  threshold for responsible forestry practices worldwide. These standards support biodiversity, protect wildlife habitats, reduce chemical use, protect stream sides and water quality, conserve old growth, ensure protection of high conservation value forests, give stakeholders a voice in the process, and ensure long-term timber supplies.
